North Macedonia’s Government, as announced, is to declare at a session on Tuesday a state of energy crisis in order to be able to inject funds from the budget into the energy companies.
Economy Minister Kreshnik Bekteshi said the Government would be proposed to declare a state of energy crisis, adding that funds are available to intervene, while depending on the needs of the energy companies funds will accordingly be redirected from the budget.
“There will be no power cuts for the time being, but state of energy crisis will be declared in order to be able to inject funds from the budget into the energy companies in the country, including ESM and MEPSO to increase their liquidity, and to be able to intervene in the import of electricity,” said Bekteshi.
According to him, EUR 100 million are currently available in the budget, which had not been used from the Covid-19 pandemic response fund On October 30, the Government adopted a decree on declaring a state of energy crisis.
According to the Ministry of Economy, it was adopted to comply with the Law on Energy. According to the Ministry, the decree also sets out the rights and obligations of market participants in times of a state of crisis, and includes all market participants instead of only the state energy companies as was the case before. In addition, the business community has also called for declaring a state of energy crisis.
