Ambassador of Japan Sawada Hironori signed ten contracts for the Grant Assistance for Grass Roots and Human Security Projects (GGP) for the purpose of improving the basic human needs in North Macedonia.
The total GGP assistance this year reaches over 540.000 EUR which is the largest amount received by North Macedonia since the start of GGP Program in 1996, Embassy of Japan said Monday in a press release.
10 GGP projects supporting North Macedonia’s fight against COVID-19 crisis are as following: University Clinic for Infectious Diseases and Febrile Conditions – Skopje for procurement of medical waste machine in the amount of €65,801.00; City General Hospital “8-mi Septemvri“ for procurement of ultrasound for cancer diagnosis in the amount of €60,985.00; Health Center Skopje for the procurement of emergency aid kits for the ambulance vehicles and night services in the amount of €40,420.00; General Hospital Debar for procurement of an x-ray in the amount of €34,576.00; General Hospital Kumanovo for procurement of an ultrasound system in the amount of €54,094.00; General Hospital Gostivar for procurement of an x-ray in the amount of €60,635.00; General Hospital Kochani for procurement of an ultrasound and fetal heart rate monitor for the gynaecologic department in the amount of €47,863.00; General Hospital Gevgelija for procurement of an x-ray machine in the amount of €60,698.00; General Hospital Veles for procurement of an x-ray machine in the amount of €60,748.00 and Health Center Sveti Nikole for procurement of an ambulance vehicle in the amount of €54,633.00.

Through GGP, by far, Japan has financed renovation projects and provision of equipment for more than 70 schools and kindergartens and 47 health care institutions and has provided 31 maintenance and waste management vehicles for 49 municipalities in 8 regions in the country.
Overall, Japan has supported North Macedonia in various sectors such as infrastructure development, improvement of healthcare, education, environment, culture, natural disasters, refugee crisis as well as emergency aid with a total amount of over 422.3 million euros and also other non-financial support, the press release read.
