“The early parliamentary elections in 2020 ended well. Despite all the challenges we all had in organizing, the final OSCE report, which we received a few days ago, proves that. The organization by the institutions was excellently done all three days, it went great and of course, with the remark of the announcement of the results and the announcement of the results, ie the hacking of the SEC website. “Despite the challenges of the pandemic, we organized those elections in a good way,” said Oliver Derkoski, president of the SEC at the panel discussion “Electoral Reforms: Desires vs. Reality” organized by CIVIL as part of the Freedom Festival.
Derskoski stressed that the early local elections in Shtip and Plasnica, with the previous experience from last summer, will now be easier to organize and that they have the support of the local election commissions.
“The elections in the summer, despite the fears, showed that the elections are not a cluster to spread the virus, the polling stations were protected, all measures were taken, of course there were unscrupulous voters, but in such an organization it is normal according to the mentality of our citizens.
In Shtip and Plasnica we have a deteriorating health condition, but we have taken all possible protective measures so as not to be a cause for increasing the numbers of patients.
The changes that were made before the elections, should not be done like that, we constantly emphasize that, they did not contribute to the organization in the process and change the mentality of the citizens, we should make a legal solution for the next elections which we have, that will stop the problems that we have.
I urge that the practice of changing the Electoral Code be changed frequently, at 5 to 12, to give the election authorities the right to organize the process.
Our biggest weakness is the trust in the institutions, and we must strengthen their capacity and a clear good election code that will not open dilemmas in the organization and conduct of elections,” said Derkoski.
