NEWS OF THE DAY: Parliament adopts Law on census of population with necessary majority
With 62 votes “in favour”, without any “against” and “abstention”, today the Parliament adopted the Law on census of the population and households that is to be conducted in April this year. Today there was only voting on the law, while the debate ended on January 15, when there was no quorum for the voting. VMRO-DPMNE MPs were not present in the voting hall. The biggest opposition party previously announced that they will collect signatures from citizens to annul this law.
“The Law on census of population has been adopted with the necessary majority! After almost 20 years, we will count ourselves. We must never allow for a statistical operation to be politicized. Unfortunately, VMRO-DPMNE stood on the opposite side, let the citizens judge their actions”, posted Kostadin Kostadinov from SDSM on Facebook.
STATEMENT OF THE DAY: Maricic: The result of the census will be a basic tool for creating future development policies
Minister of Justice, Bojan Maricic, today on his Facebook profile welcomed the adoption of the Law on Census by Parliament.
The result of the census, according to the Minister, will be a basic tool for creating future development policies, while the business community will have direct benefit from it.
“I would like to welcome the decision of Parliament, which just a while ago passed the Law on Census. I appeal to the citizens to be at ease and to trust the institutions. The State Statistical Office and the institutions are more than prepared for conducting the census, while the trial one with this new methodology has already been welcomed by the European Commission. After almost two decades the state will finally conduct such a complex statistical operation, and the result from it will be a basic tool for creating future development policies. The business community will also have direct benefit from the census”, highlighted Maricic on Facebook.
