CIVIL marks April 12, the beginning of the Colourful Revolution, this year again. It is a day that must be remembered in history as a symbol of the fight against the regime and dictatorship of a government that must never happen to us again.
On this day, we also recall on all the other protests, civic initiatives and movements with which the citizens of North Macedonia expressed their protest against the undemocratic policies and practices.
Four years after the Colourful Revolution, which started on April 12, 2016, CIVIL reminds that now more than ever we must remain watchful and oppose the remnants of the regime, the destructive policies and campaigns which, unfortunately, we are witnessing also in these difficult days of struggling with the coronavirus pandemic.
The fight for human rights and freedoms, justice, freedom and equality of our society continues.
The memories of the Colourful Revolution must continue to live on as testimonies to the power of the voice of the underprivileged, the power of the citizens who in all these years have not remained silent, deaf or blind to the injustice.
With the purpose to mark all civil protests for human rights, freedoms, justice and equality, CIVIL launched an initiative in 2018 for observing April 12 as Civil Protest Day. The Initiative was also submitted to the Parliament of the RNM, but it mostly refers to the citizens, regardless of whether this date will be accepted and recognized by politicians and institutions.
This initiative has also been supported by President Stevo Pendarovski.
This year, in accordance with the measures for preventing the spread of coronavirus, CIVIL is marking Civil Protest Day with a series of textual, photo and video contents on its media platform, which at one time was one of the few that treaded through the media darkness imposed by the regime.
With this initiative, CIVIL is paying deep respect and appreciation to all freedom-loving citizens who have spent months and years on the streets across the country, demanding respect for human rights and freedoms for everyone.
