CIVIL within the frames of the Freedom Festival organizes two panel discussions, the first entitled “Social Justice and Discrimination: Too many people on the margins of society and politics… Until when?”, Starting at 12 o’clock, while the second panel discussion is entitled “Census : “Between policies and statistics” which will start at 3 pm, at the Park Residence Hotel.
The speakers in the first panel discussion will be, Mirjana Najcevska, university professor, Elis Shaqiri from Romalitico and the AVAJA and Ljuljeta Ademi, an activist and advisor in the office of President Pendarovski in charge of special needs relations. The panel discussion will be moderated by Dehran Muratov.
The second panel will be held with the physical presence of the participants, with strict adherence to the protocols for protection against Covid-19. Participants in the panel will be Doncho Gerasimovski, former director of the State Statistical Office, Apostol Simovski, current director of the State Statistical Office, and Xhabir Deralla of CIVIL. The panel will be moderated by Diana Tahiri from CIVIL.
The last census in the country was conducted in 2002, while the attempt for a census in 2011 was infamously interrupted due to the politicization of the process. The new government plans a census in April 2021. Tensive and politicized discussions on this topic have already been launched, and with an open panel discussion, CIVIL will contribute to the need to leave politics outside of statistics.
The panel discussions will be broadcast live on the Facebook page, as well as the CIVIL YouTube video channel which invites the media and all those interested to follow it and freely download the content resulting from the panel discussion.
The event is organized within the Freedom Festival, which started on November 25, when the organization celebrated its 21st anniversary. The festival period also includes the International Day of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (December 3) and the International Anti-Corruption Day (December 9).
The events are part of the “Europe is our home” project, supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany. The Freedom Festival is a multimedia event within the Civic Lens project, supported by the National Endowment for Democracy (USA), as well as the Civica Mobilitas Program, supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
