We should wait for emotions to subside and to show patience, calmness and common sense, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev said Monday when asked whether Bulgaria should defend its position on the Macedonian issue or back down.
“Our brothers from the Republic of North Macedonia should join the EU, but it should be a sustainable process. To put an end to anti-Bulgarian rhetoric and hate speech, and recognition of the historical truth should be an irreversible process. It is here where Bulgaria must categorically defend its rights,” he responded.
He said that a year after the signing of the Friendship Treaty he had requested that an annex to the document should be signed after progress in its implementation lacked.
“A year ago, in September, I convened the government officials for an emergency meeting where I had insisted on preparing a national framework position to clearly define our conditions and red lines. I continue advocating for it,” President Radev said.
