North Macedonia is prepared to fully implement the Friendship Treaty, the Government’s Special Representative for Bulgaria, Vlado Buchkovski, told a news briefing on Wednesday following his meeting with Bulgarian Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva.
He said that at the moment there’s lack of trust between North Macedonia and Bulgaria, but stressed satisfaction over his constructive meeting with Zaharieva.
“I’m happy that the Bulgarian government has seen my appointment as special representative as an additional effort to regain trust. We agreed in the upcoming period to discuss what we’ve achieved instead of empty promises,” Buchkovski stressed.
He added that his task will be to coordinate treaty implementation, except in the area of history.
“Neither I, nor Zaharieva can change shared history, but we can contribute to improving cooperation in areas of infrastructure, education, culture, etc,” Buchkovski told reporters.
Moreover, he firmly denied allegations that Macedonian representatives in Sofia are negotiating “tearing apart the country.”
