Finance Minister Fatmir Besimi held a meeting on Friday with Bulgarian Ambassador to North Macedonia, Angel Angelov, and discussed ways to strengthen economic cooperation and speed up implementation of crucial infrastructure projects that aim to improve connectivity with Bulgaria.
“Regarding transport infrastructure, North Macedonia’s government is committed to the construction of the rail section of Corridor 8. Funds have been secured for the first and second phase of the process, while the third will be financed via a grant procured through the IPA II program,” Besimi noted.
Moreover, the Ministry of Finance said in a press release, construction and modernization of the road infrastructure within Corridor 8 is also underway.
Participants also discussed at the meeting ways to improve the efficiency of public spending through the implementation of the Public Finance Management Reform Program, a key goal of the twinning project “Strengthening Budget Planning, Execution and Internal Control Functions” within which the Macedonian Ministry of Finance cooperates with the Finance Ministry of Bulgaria.
