The Mayor of Gostivar, Dr. Arben Taravari at the CIVIL Conference “Perspectives 2021” with his views on the crisis caused by the pandemic with Covid-19 for the coming year.
We had a relatively difficult year with a pandemic that was unexpected not only for us but for the whole world, and from the end of February to the beginning of March when the pandemic was declared, it practically caused huge problems for our country, our city and the whole of Europe, and the whole world. We went through a difficult period, in terms of health, especially in our country where we have a health system as we have it, and most of us felt it on our skin, and paid relatively dearly, and with human lives. But that’s it, some things just don’t depend on us. Most citizens contributed by adhering to the measures recommended by the competent institutions, now we are at the end of the pandemic, I hope, light is seen at the end of the tunnel, it is the vaccine that is being prepared for next year… I hope that in the first months of 2o21 vaccination will start in Macedonia.
All this causes economic consequences, in the municipalities, in the state, for the Government and the ministries, and for the overall functioning of the society. I think that now, as never before, we should be united, to be together all, regardless of ethnicity, party or any affiliation, because this is a really difficult period, such things happen once in a hundred years… And therefore, I think we all need to show flexibility towards each other to get through this crisis.
According to professional experts, the predictions are that in the first half of 2021, maybe from June we will be without masks, without a crisis situation, we will return to normal life, and that normally has repercussions in the financial operations, and in the functioning of the institutions of the system. Most people are scared, we are already experiencing the economic consequences,” Taravari said, pointing to rising borrowing during the pandemic crisis at both the municipal and state levels, as well as globally.
