Since the war started, three years ago, the first year from the beginning the whole surrounding of the political world and Europe and the world is changing, not based on this war, but focused on this war. The things that happened in the White House and Washington, the result of the longer development in Europe, that shows the whole situation – Ukraine is confronted since the independence, has fought for democracy, the fight for human rights, the fight for having their own rights to be a nation, and to overthrow the imperialistic thinking, said Dr. Wolfgang Ressmann, President, Media Dialogue / Y4M, Germany, in the opening of the Conference “Ukraine and the World: Resisting Aggression, Defeating Authoritarianism”.
At the moment, we are in a situation, when we look back, and I want to bring some optimism in this really heavy situation. Three years ago, everyone thought two days or three days – and Ukraine is overran by Russian troops and then we got a new “iron curtain” along the NATO frontier. But our trust and – I know Ukraine since 2015, with or project about the resistance of the Ukrainian people, of Ukraine against Russian imperialism. And it’s not only in Ukraine, it’s in Georgia too, it’s in Moldova…
What’s going on with the Trump government, not the US, the Trump government, the Trump administration, at the moment, is absolutely unacceptable, but, it’s a chance for Europe, I think…
This is a chance that Europe has the opportunity, and let’s say it really in this way, to unify and to become the new house of democracy and human rights in the world. So, our support for Ukraine, military, financially, politically – is absolutely necessary and I think it’s unbroken. We are four hundred million people in Europe, and we have a great economic power, so it’s our test now, to throw Russia out of Ukraine, and to build up a really new system of peace and security in Europe.
