Today marks 1000 days since February 24, 2022, when Russia launched its full-scale military invasion of Ukraine. This period has been marked by unparalleled brutality: systematic violations of international law, war crimes including torture and execution of civilians, the kidnapping and deportation of 20,000 children, and the deliberate destruction of homes, schools, hospitals, and cultural landmarks. Russia’s aggression has triggered ecological catastrophes, posed nuclear threats, and devastated civilian infrastructure in its attempt to break the will of the Ukrainian people.
Despite these horrors, the world has also witnessed 1000 days of extraordinary heroism by the Ukrainian nation. Every day, the resilience, sacrifice, and unyielding spirit of the Ukrainian people have been inscribed in history as a testament to their fight for freedom.
It is crucial to remember that this war did not begin in 2022 but in 2014, with the illegal occupation of Crimea and parts of Donbas by Russian paramilitary forces – a crisis the world attempted to overlook until the full-scale invasion.
CIVIL strongly condemns Russia’s heinous crimes of aggression, systematic war crimes against civilians and prisoners of war, and attacks on the environment and civilian infrastructure.
The Path to Peace
The only acceptable path to a just and lasting peace lies in the implementation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s Peace Formula. This includes the complete withdrawal of Russian forces to the internationally recognized Ukrainian borders, the return of kidnapped children, and adherence to all points of the formula. Nothing less than this is acceptable.
The world must understand that Ukraine is not only fighting for its own survival and freedom but also for the freedom of Europe and the democratic world.
CIVIL firmly stands with Ukraine.
Слава Україні!
