The youngest prime minister was 34 years old when she came to power in 2019, she is a “female government” leader, most successfully led the country through the covid pandemic, expressly led her country to NATO and also helped Sweden make the same decision… She works a lot and is known for her diligence and commitment… She is a rocker, doesn’t miss a good concert, her zodiac sign is Scorpio, she’s young and beautiful… Yes, that’s Sanna Marin, now 36, prime minister of prosperous Finland and leader of the Social Democrats.
After a private video was posted on social media (August 17) in which she is dancing and partying, the world public engaged in an intense debate. Opposition conservatives and their like-minded people in the country and throughout the world have strongly attacked her. They even requested for her to take a drug test, which she did. The test that she paid for herself was negative.
“I am human” – said Sanna Marin at an event of the Social Democrats on August 24, while fighting back tears and in defense of the right to a private life – “And I too sometimes long for joy, light and fun amidst these dark clouds” (#SolidarityWithSanna)
In the meanwhile, people from around the world are dancing to express their support and solidarity with Sanna (#SolidarityWithSanna), as can be seen also from CBS’s video compilation.
The video of Sanna’s party prompted both security services and security experts to analyze whether Finland had really been threatened in the moments when the prime minister had been relaxing, having in consideration the military threat from Russia. And the answer came from there that Finland’s security hadn’t been threatened, not even slightly.
Does the fact that the video leaked mean that the security of the communications is threatened and how Russia will use this for propaganda purposes are the only important questions in the entire story? – as Deutsche Welle’s correspondent from Brussels Teri Schultz pointed out.
The debate continues. And while ordinary people and politicians from around the world are sending millions of messages of support for Sanna, conservatives are full of poison. It’s not befitting for a prime minister to behave in such a way, she threatened the security of Finland, she abused her position (she danced during working hours, Oh my!) and all kinds of other stuff… As it is befitting for backward and endlessly grumpy people, as we have all around us here and in the world. It wouldn’t surprise me if I were to read somewhere that someone put a chip in the glass of her drink.
Does Sanna have the right to a private life? Can the prime minister of one of the most prosperous European countries dance during working hours? Or is she supposed to buy a massive white table 6 meters long? There is at least one obvious and one hidden message in this text/comment. The obvious one is solidarity with Sanna(#SolidarityWithSanna). The hidden one is not that hidden after all: Even if they are from Finland, grumpy people will always find a reason to be grumpy. But the world is moving forward, dancing. Together with the grumps.
