President Stevo Pendarovski today handed over the mandate for the composition of a new government to the leader of SDSM, Dimitar Kovacevski.

– Based on Article 84, paragraph 1, line one of the Constitution of the Republic of Northern Macedonia and the notification on the proposal for prime minister submitted by SDSM, and supported by the political parties in the coalition that together have the majority prescribed by the Constitution in Parliament, for prime minister “I am appointing Dimitar Kovacevski, president of SDSM, as the composition of the government,” said President Penadrovski in the villa “Vodno”.

SDSM leader Kovacevski said that the mandate given to him is an honor and responsibility.

“As of today, I am starting to form a new team of people who need to respond to the serious challenges that await us from the beginning of next year,” Kovacevski said.

He pointed out that we are facing long-term problems and that is why we need stable, brave and responsible people who, as he said, will take responsibility, to face and overcome all obstacles in order to protect and care for the citizens.

He announced that the new government will have a clear goal, ensuring security, a better life and a future for the citizens.

– That requires efficient, honest and responsible governance, which will be a feature of the team that I will form as a prime minister, said Kovacevski. He announced that he will strive to restore the citizens’ trust in politics and institutions. He promised to stand for independent institutions and a just society.

Kovacevski announced that the focus will be on the country’s economic development and financial support for families. According to him, we must not allow political divisions and endless arguments which, as he said, do great damage to the development and implementation of projects and reforms that are needed for a better life for all. Announce overcoming differences and uniting quickly for priorities to move forward quickly.

The Assembly last week confirmed the resignation of Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, which began the ten-day deadline in which President Pendarovski should entrust the mandate to form a new government.

The SDSM Central Board at a session held on Monday officially confirmed Kovacevski as a candidate for a new prime minister. Kovacevski announced the formation of the new government in the middle of next month, by January 18 at the latest.

After the prime minister-designate receives the mandate to form a new government, he is expected to submit the work program and the composition of the new government cabinet to the Parliament during the first half of next month, after which the MPs will have to vote for the new government. To be elected, at least 61 lawmakers must vote for the proposed cabinet. The new parliamentary majority composed of the coalition led by SDSM, together with DUI, Alternativa and DPA has 64 MPs in the Assembly.

The President of the Assembly Talat Xhaferi yesterday, explaining the whole procedure for electing a new government, believes that it would take office on January 17, 2022. After the mandate is given to the President of SDSM Kovacevski, the President of the state according to Article 210 of the Rules of Procedure should inform the President of the Assembly to give the mandate to start the deadlines in the Assembly, to count, to count the deadlines, and the Assembly and for the prime minister.
