The Albanian Parliament, at the plenary session, which began with a minute of silence in honor of the Macedonian passengers killed in the bus accident in Bulgaria, ratified the agreement on joint controls at the border crossings between North Macedonia and Albania.
“Albania and North Macedonia will have joint border controls according to the same model we have with Kosovo and Montenegro,” said Interior Minister Bledi Cuci in his address to Parliament.
He added that there will be only one control counter at all six border crossings.
– The agreement is based on models that we have with other countries that we have prepared in consultation with the PAMECA mission in our country. The main goals are to facilitate the movement of people and goods, to increase cooperation in meeting common security interests and the rapid exchange of information, to strengthen the professional capacity of border police officers and to control the quality of law enforcement on border control, said Chuchi.
I believe, he added, that it is clear to everyone that this agreement aims to “strengthen ties with our neighbor” and we believe that it serves “our joint efforts for the EU and the Open Balkans Initiative”.
Along the Macedonian-Albanian border, the border crossings Blato and Dzepishte (which is of local character and already has a joint control) near Debar, Kafasan near Struga, Stenje near Resen and Sveti Naum near Ohrid.
