The focus of the agreement with Sofia on overcoming the differences is in December, but the period is short and therefore January is not excluded as an option for a date for the start of the country’s negotiations with the EU, said Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs Nikola Dimitrov for TV24.
He stressed that the current EU presidency, Slovenia, has a strategic interest “to move the region towards the European Union”, reminding that after it the EU presidency will be taken over by France, where presidential elections are scheduled for spring.
– Although the preference is December, I hear from several capitals in Europe that January still remains an opportunity to succeed, which gives us maybe a little more time, although I think our focus should be on December, said Dimitrov.
On the eve of the EU Summit in December, the Austrian Minister of European and International Affairs Michael Linhart will pay a visit to Skopje tomorrow, and the Polish President Andrzej Duda will also pay a two-day visit to the country tomorrow. One of the main topics of their meetings with the hosts in Skopje will be the European perspective of the country.
