The European Parliament’s standing rapporteur for North Macedonia, Ilhan Kyuchyuk, who is also the new leader of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE), received a plaquette recognizing his support to the history and philosophy competition held under the title “Macedonia and Bulgaria: Close and Distant” in Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria.
The competition, organized by Vela Blagoeva High School in partnership with the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo and under the auspices of MEP Kyuchyuk, welcomed a great number of participants from Bulgaria.
“It’s important that good examples and practices get the necessary public support,” Kyuchyuk said when receiving the plaquette. “That’s why I’ll continue supporting these initiatives, which will strengthen our good neighborly relations in the future.”
Discussing the future of the competition, Kyuchyuk and Vela Blagoeva High School principal Angel Janchev agreed that next year students from North Macedonia would be invited to join the Bulgarian students taking part in the competition.
Both Kyuchyuk and Janchev said the place of North Macedonia was in the European Union, adding that such joint initiatives were a step toward better bilateral ties.
The winners of the history contest will get to visit the European Parliament in Brussels. The aim of the contest, according to organizers, is to develop cohesion and good neighborly relations.
