uty PM for European Affairs Nikola Dimitrov began his working visit to Estonia on Friday in Tallinn, meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs Eva-Maria Liimets.
Dimitrov and Liimets discussed key aspects of North Macedonia’s European file, focusing on prospects for a sooner breakthrough the EU integration path, on which Estonia consistently voices support, the Secretariat for European Affairs said in a press release.
“The Estonian story is very successful, and North Macedonia can and should learn a lot from friendly Estonia. Estonia is an example of how a country can develop and prosper, using all available capacities. Today, in Tallinn, my colleague Eva-Maria reaffirmed Estonia’s unreserved support in the process of Europeanization of our society,” Dimitrov said at the meeting with Liimets.
He pointed out that North Macedonia has delivered a lot over the recent years, both in terms of reform performance but also in terms of closing difficult bilateral issues. Therefore, it is high time for the EU to also deliver on its promises. He added that the chances for revitalization of the EU enlargement policy are in the Macedonian case, which is a true test for the Union and its influence in the region.
Minister Liimets reaffirmed the principled support for the European future of the country, as well as the readiness to share the successful Estonian European integration experience. She stressed that it is necessary for the European Union to consistently apply the new accession methodology and consider all possibilities for convening the first intergovernmental conference with North Macedonia as soon as possible.
In addition, talks tackled deepening the cooperation between the countries through technical and expert support, particularly focusing on sharing Estonian e-governance experience, the press release reads.
