North Macedonia gets its own Law on Asset Origin that will focus on unlawfully acquired property and capital, says Deputy PM for the fight against corruption and crime, sustainable development and human resources Ljupcho Nikolovski.
“At our own initiative and with the expert and technical assistance from the Council of Europe, the first step has been taken. A feasibility study on the Law on Asset Origin has been developed, including a comparative analysis of international experiences, analysis of the national legal framework and prior experiences, identified institutional shortcomings and future guidelines to create the new law. A working group has already been set up to start drafting the Law on Asset Origin,” Deputy PM Nikolovski says in a Facebook post.
According to him, the law aims to control capital and open the way for seizure of unlawfully acquired property, as well as prevent unlawful moneymaking at the people’s expense.
