Now is not the time to relax restrictions. On the contrary, they might be enhanced at the beginning of next week if the current ones do not produce the expected results, said Health Minister Venko Filipche on Wednesday.
The situation is monitored on a daily basis and assessments are made with regards to the incidence, prevalence, hospitalizations and number of deceased, hospital beds and medical staff, i.e. the epidemiological situation in general.
“Regarding the curfew, epidemiological surveys and analyses have shown it is highly likely that young people gather in groups after the closure of the hospitality facilities and they are the virus transmitters, which is seen among adult categories. We detected this during the previous wave and results were visible after a period of two weeks of stricter measures. We expect this to happen this time too. We are now in the fifth week, and considering that the previous wave lasted between 6-8 weeks, it means that we have passed the mid-point and therefore expect the results to come by the end of this or the onset of next week,” said Minister Filipche.
He added they are not contemplating any relaxation of the measures, but on the contrary, they might be enhanced at the beginning of next week if they fail to produce the expected results.
“The incidence and transmission of the virus has increased across the country, due to the non-observance of measures and the easier transmission because of the variants,” noted Filipche.
