Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said on Monday that stakeholders are making efforts to ensure COVID-19 vaccines from all manufacturers arrive in North Macedonia as soon as possible. Chinese jabs, he stressed, are expected to be here by the end of February.
“There’s room for more orders. We’re making efforts to procure shots from all producers. I’ve instructed the Health Minister, in line with experts’ opinions, to order 100,000 doses of the Sputnik vaccine and talks are already underway,” the PM told reporters.
He thanked the Russian Ambassador for help during negotiations.
“Through the COVAX facility we’ll receive Moderna and AstraZeneca jabs, Pfizer vaccines have already arrived, those from China have been ordered, so citizens should know that we’ve procured shots from all manufacturers via appropriate channels, to ensure we have enough doses,” Zaev said on Monday after testifying in the ‘Titanic’ case trial at the Skopje-based Criminal Court.
He added that Chinese vaccines are expected to arrive in North Macedonia by the end of February.
“Chinese New Year has passed so the process has intensified. Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani and I have both sent letters to the Chinese Embassy, as well as to our Embassy there to speed up the process. I believe vaccines will be delivered by the end of the week, i.e. by the end of February. Regarding Sputnik jabs, more details will be available once papers are signed and distribution projections will be made,” Zaev noted.
