Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, accompanied by Deputy PM for European Affairs Nikola Dimitrov, met with Slovak Foreign Minister Ivan Korčok on Monday, discussing North Macedonia’s reforms in all fields and Slovakia’s continued support to the country’s EU path.
PM Zaev and FM Korčok agreed that continuation of the EU enlargement process is important both for the Union and the Western Balkans, with Slovakia reaffirming its position that bilateral issues should be solved separately from the European processes, the Government said in a press release.
“Euro-integration remains our strategic goal, which is demonstrated by the citizens’ support to the process. We are committed to the country’s Europeanization at home, but also to goodneighborly dialogue and mutual understanding. 2020 was an important year for us, a year when we joined NATO and received a decision for the start of the EU accession negotiations,” said PM Zaev.
Interlocutors also noted that the rule of law means security for both citizens and investors, being one of the most important prerequisites for development.
They assessed that North Macedonia-Slovakia political relations are excellent but there are opportunities for enhancement of economic ties.
In addition, Zaev thanked Korčok for today’s donation of four ventilators worth EUR 100,000, the EUR 200,000-worth donation through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism back in October, as well as the country’s bilateral support in all walks of life, reads the press release.
