As long as the management of the state institutions is distributed according to ethnicity instead of knowledge and skills and experience, Macedonia will be an alliance of tribes, not a state.
As long as education is not measured by quality but by the language in which it is conducted, Macedonia will fall on all lists of education, literacy and educational offer.
Language, culture and tradition are important things, and are part of the identity of individuals and groups. However, their use in defining the political scene in Macedonia has nothing to do with their protection, promotion or practice. It has to do with defocusing attention from the problems of everyday life, with the responsibility of politicians, it has to do with coating everything with the same color so that the rot is not visible, and with placing kitschy flashing ads on turbo-folk parties.
