The Public Revenue Office (PRO) is ready to implement the VAT-free weekend measure. The ‘MojDDV’ (MyVAT) app, which citizens will use to scan their fiscal receipts, is updated and running, PRO acting director Faruk Omeri told a press conference on Friday.
Over the weekend (October 10, 11 and 12), citizens will receive a full VAT return, by the end of the month at the latest, for purchase of domestic products and services, as well as IT equipment.
“All citizens who are registered and use the Public Revenue Office app ‘MojDDV’ to scan their fiscal receipts over the weekend on October 10, 11 and 12, for the purchase of Macedonian products and services, as well as IT equipment will see a full VAT return,” Omeri said.
To have a full refund, citizens need to scan their fiscal receipts within three days of receiving them, otherwise they will get the regular 20% VAT return for buying domestic products.
“It is important to note that the amount of the purchase of Macedonian products, services and IT equipment shouldn’t exceed Mden 30,000 to have a full VAT refund. Amounts that exceed this limit will be returned as 20% VAT refund,” Omeri noted.
This VAT-free weekend, the emphasis is on computers and IT equipment. Over the weekend, computers and IT equipment will be registered as Macedonian products in the fiscal receipts, regardless of their origin, in order for citizens to use the benefits of buying computer equipment given how necessary it is at the moment.
The VAT refund as part of the VAT-free weekend will be realized within 15 days after receiving the fiscal receipt, i.e. by the end of October.
Omeri urged compliance with recommended protocols, noting that inspectors will be on the ground to prevent possible price gouging.
“Of course, we’re aware that the VAT-free weekend measure is being implemented amid the COVID-19, and there is an obligation to comply with health protocols,” he pointed out.
