In the shelter for homeless people in “Cicino Selo”, in the period 2009/10, the non-governmental organization “Ambrela” in a joint cooperation with the OSCE Mission found out about the abuse of a juvenile.
“Unfortunately, somewhere in the Tetovo villages, in a joint action of the MOI, we as a non-governmental sector and the OSCE Mission found a 15-year-old Romani. At that time, in “Cicino Selo” there were 30 families that were relocated to the children’s summer resort in Ljubanci. Today the conditions in “Cicino Selo” are improved, there are no problems, but time will tell”., says Ljatife Shikovska from “Ambrela” for CIVIL Media.
She also adds that in the period 2009/10 no one had been caught and held responsible for abuse and trafficking of children.
“Unfortunately, both then and now, the situation is as it is. I hope that now the competent institutions, especially the MOI and the MLSP and the Public Prosecutor, will seriously engage in dealing with
this problem, and those who have not been held responsible need to be held criminally responsible, whomever this may be about”, is decisive Shikovska.
She calls on the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy to seriously consider the transformation of certain public institutions, such as the public care institutions “25 May” and “Ranka Milanovik”.
“If we go years back, we will see that this part of the system that concerns the care and responsibly towards children is completely devastated. I have the impression that now we need to start from zero again, but it is never too late to start, all with the purpose for the children to be safe and taken care of, especially if state institutions are concerned”, says Shikovska.
