The social services of our small and dear Republic, took a little poor girl – Romani, under their protection because of begging. The girl was 5 years old then, and now she is 13 years old. At the age of thirteen, in the care of the Public Institution for care of children with educational-social problems and disturbed behavior, after being raped who knows how many times, she becomes pregnant and undergoes abortion.
I read the announcement of the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy. In the direction of protecting the interests and rights of the child, they are refraining from sharing details about the case. The same Ministry which, if nothing else, was unable to protect the child physically and mentally, should bear responsibility.
Even though she is in the care of this institution, the Ministry euphemistically calls this “sexual exploitation”, since the RAPE took place outside the Institution, hence, for the Ministry there is no reason to demand responsibility from the institution. They reported to the MOI, and – can you imagine – the Ministry that has been destroying the life of that little child since she was five years old, is providing her the necessary psychosocial support.
For the absurdity to be even greater, the Ministry is denying that the child had been taken away because of poverty, but that instead she was taken away – among else – because of begging. It is as if begging was her hobby. As if even the rich people beg. An arrogant, cruel and idiotic denial.
In the meanwhile, the MOI will continue with their “further procedures”. The institutions in which the children are “protected” will function as they have functioned until now, without any of them being accountable for anything, and the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy will continue with the expedition of bringing life to everyone through progressive transparency and legalistic policies – everything according to the law. And that’s all.
And we just cannot seem to understand that the state exists for the citizens – even for the poor marginalized Roma people who are often invisible. If the state is not capable of protecting them from poverty, hunger and other violence, including rape as well, then it would be better if it did not exist at all, or at least for it not to interfere at all.
And let us not behave as if we were crazy, if the little raped Romani girl were an Albanian or a Macedonian girl, the reactions would have been much more different. Because this Republic that it is attempting to be, is a pile of people with tribal mentality who have eyes and sympathy only for their own victims, while crimes against others – are irrelevant. Disgusting.
